    Panicum repens

    Torpedograss (Panicum repens) is a perennial grass weed with long, creeping, sharp-pointed growth which invades open, disturbed areas and wet areas. Torpedoweed resembles St. Augustine grass, with tall grass-like shoots emerging from the ground.

    • Scientific Name: Panicum repens
    • Common Name: Torpedograss
    • Seasonality: Year-round
    • Soil Type: Moist to wet soils
    • Toxicity: Non-toxic
    • Plant Growth: Aggressive growth rate and can be difficult to remove completely
    • Management Recommendations: Glyphosate is the most effective option in landscape beds. Fluazifop (Fusilade II) can be used in and around ornamental plants listed on the product label. Preemergence herbicides are usually not effective.
