    Dr. Xingwang Yu

    Assistant Professor of Horticultural Sciences

Dr. Xingwang Yu is an assistant professor of specialty crop and ornamental plant breeding in the Department of Horticultural Sciences at the University of Florida. Dr. Yu’s program is an integrated, impact-driven plant breeding program that aims to deliver cultivars that are economically valuable, environmental resilient, and directly responsive to industry needs in Florida and beyond. His research program primarily focuses on specialty and ornamental crops and controlled environment agriculture (CEA) crops to improve quality traits, abiotic and biotic stress (disease/insect) resistance, and aesthetic quality using both traditional and advanced technologies. His program applies modern molecular genetic/genomic tools to enhance precision breeding and support new cultivar development. The Extension component of his program focuses on transferring breeding research information into actionable guidance and resources to support growers, industry, and stakeholders.
