Root-Zone Management for Organic Vegetable Production in CEA
As soilless culture has only recently been recognized as a viable option for organic production, there is still limited research on organic fertilizer strategies that work effectively in these systems. Research in my lab has already shown that sustainable, regionally sourced bark and wood fiber substrates can successfully support containerized vegetable production.
Our current work focuses on identifying which soilless substrates provide the best root growth and development when used with water‑soluble organic fertilizers in containerized systems. The results will offer producers clear, practical guidelines for adopting sustainable soilless substrates and organic fertilizer programs to support high‑quality vegetable production under protected culture.
