Xuan Wei, Ph.D.

Xuan Wei is a research assistant scienctist in the Department of Food and Resource Economics examining the relationships between consumer behavior, horticultural production, and the marketing of horticultural products. Her research program utilizes horticultural producer and consumer surveys, controlled experiments, and economic models to understand individual and company behavior surrounding the marketing and purchasing of plant products. Her current research focuses on consumer preference for environmentally friendly plant production practices (such as pollintor-friendly labeling) in the ornamental horticulture industry. Wei earned her master’s in economics and doctorate in economics and agricultural, food, and resource economics at Michigan State University.

Wei is highly skilled in economic modeling and is interested in integrating and demonstrating economic theory through empirical evidence and laboratory experiments. Her research experience has included topics including firm export decisions, producer technology adoption, individual willingness-to-participate in environmental incentive programs, the relationships between immigration and U.S. agricultural labor markets, and consumer preferences for sustainable production practices. She currently serves as secretary and treasurer of the Specialty Crops Economic section of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association (AAEA).
