JOB DESCRIPTION:

1. First academic responsibility is to work cooperatively with IFAS College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), Departmental, and other Research and Education Center teaching coordinators and programs to foster communication and facilitate recruitment with schools and colleges on academic programs at UF, in particular the CALS Plant Science distance learning program. Responsible for student services associated with matriculating and non-matriculating students:
- Advise students on course selection and program of study. Register students each term. 
- Serve as liaison between off campus students and on campus departments and resources.
- Maintain academic program correspondence and records.
- Coordinate scholarship, internship and "part-time" employment opportunities for MREC students.
- Ensure graduation requirements are met, periodically run program audits to keep students on track.
A second academic responsibility is to provide administrative support to MREC teaching faculty in managing asynchronous online courses in the Plant Science program offered throughout the state.  This will require becoming proficient in UF's learning management software (Canvas). 

2. Establish strong linkages with academic institutions, stakeholders and trade associations, agricultural and business reporters, trade journal staff, and local and regional news organizations.  Coordinate scheduling, setup, and promotion of MREC through field days and tours.  Work with local secondary schools and state colleges to develop a scalable science experience program and internships at MREC.  Finally, act as liaison between faculty, office staff, MREC employees and students to maintain an effective academic program.


3.  Strategically allocate time and attention to appropriate social media venues in close collaboration with the University of Florida-Institute Food Agriculture Systems (IFAS) Communications department.  This responsibility will be in close collaboration with the MREC science communication position and MREC IT Webmaster. 

ADVERTISED SALARY:

$48,000-60,000; commensurate with qualifications and experience.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Master's degree in education, counseling, agricultural communications, or an academic field directly related to the advisor's area of responsibility and one year of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in education, counseling, or an academic field directly related to the advisor's area of responsibility and two years of relevant experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

M.A. / M.S. degree preferred.
