Principles and practices of landscape installation and management and arboriculture. Students will survey the landscape industry, study landscape contracting procedures and interior plantscape maintenance. Laboratories will provide practical experience in various installation and maintenance practices, and field trips will provide interaction with industry. Students should expect Saturday field trips.

Overview

The goals of this course are to teach students the fundamentals of landscape and turfgrass management and how prepare a statement of work or contract for landscape services.  Principles and practices of landscape installation and management with emphasis on arboriculture.

Students will survey the landscape industry, study landscape contracting procedures, and interior plantscape maintenance.  Students will acquire an understanding of landscape and turfgrass problems and to make good decisions for managing those problems.   Prerequisite knowledge about plant materials and fundamental biology is frequently required, but the textbook for this course along with lectures and, occasionally, self-study are intended to provide this knowledge.

Laboratories will provide practical experience in various installation and maintenance practices and field trips will provide interaction with industry. Students enrolling in this class may be expected to attend Saturday field trips.

Meeting Times

Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 8:30.  Lectures and labs will be integrated.

  Final Exam 12/16/03   5:30 - 7:30 pm

91 -   100    A                          Using the following criteria:

86 -   90      B+                         Exams: 2 @ 150 points ea.    =    300  

81 -   85      B                           Assignments:                        =    200

76 -   80      C+                         Final exam:                          =    200

71 -   75      C                           Major Project                      =    300

66 -   70      D+                        Total Points                         =   1,000

61-           65      D
